Desert Residence

This commission involved the complete furnishing and enhancement of a contemporary South-Western residence in Scottsdale, Arizona. While the house already possessed beautiful architectural foundations and a rich palette of noble natural materials, the objective was to elevate its character through carefully curated interiors and a seamless integration of the surrounding landscape.

Rather than reinventing the architecture, my approach was to celebrate its inherent beauty. Every furnishing, artwork and decorative object was selected to reinforce the home's connection to the Sonoran Desert while creating an atmosphere that felt warm, refined and effortlessly welcoming. Many of the bespoke furnishings and handcrafted pieces were sourced from artisans and makers throughout the United States and South America, bringing together craftsmanship, texture and authenticity in a way that complemented the home's distinctive South-Western architecture.

The project extended well beyond the interiors. I redesigned the swimming pool and surrounding landscape, creating a series of outdoor living spaces that embraced Arizona's exceptional climate and encouraged a natural flow between the house and its environment. Native planting, sculptural cacti, generous stone terraces and tranquil water features were carefully composed to frame views of the desert beyond, allowing the landscape itself to become an integral part of everyday life.

Throughout the residence, a restrained palette of natural stone, timber, bronze and soft neutral textiles creates a sense of calm, while carefully layered textures add warmth and depth without competing with the architecture. The result is a home that feels both luxurious and timeless, where every space reflects the beauty of its setting and invites relaxed indoor–outdoor living.

This project reflects my belief that successful design is not always about transformation. Often, the greatest contribution lies in recognising the inherent strengths of a building and thoughtfully enhancing them, allowing architecture, landscape and craftsmanship to exist in quiet harmony.
